The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris and New York is a fascinating glimpse into the perfume industry by Chandler Burr, formerly the scent critic for T” The New York Times Style Magazine.
Burr offers the reader a window into the fragrance industry from two staggeringly different perspectives, as he follows the creation of two perfumes;
The first, Un Jardin sur le Nil, a perfume crafted by Jean Claude Ellena, nose for luxury brand Hermès, based in the original centre and capital of the perfume world, Grasse in France. It is a fragrance concieved with pure artistry at its core.
The second, chronicles Sarah Jessica Parker’s journey as she directs the development of her first fragrance, Lovely, in partnership with global fragrance leaders, Coty, providing an insight into the commercial centre of the perfume world, where commerce and celebrity dominate.
