The Director is an intimate portrait of Frida Giannini, Gucci’s creative director from 2006 to 2014.
Shot over eighteen months and presented in three parts, The Director is a fascinating glimpse into the Giannini’s time at Gucci. Of course, Alessandro Michele has since taken over as creative director, and is seen by Giannini’s side throughout the film (yes, we studied his face at all times…). At 90 mins, this is an easy watch, and an enjoyable one if you like to see how designs evolve and develop, how colours and textures are decided upon, and enjoyable especially if you enjoy the intensity of people making important fashion decisions (solemnly, dressed in black), and the lifestyles that they do lead.
