Marimekko SS16 Collection

The Preview Event & Collection

On Tuesday night, iconic Nordic brand Marimekko previewed their Spring Summer 2016 collection – the first under Anna Teurnell’s  creative direction – at Sydney’s Opera House. The collection recently made its global debut at Paris Fashion Week. Before you ask, the product won’t be available in Australia for a few months yet. Yes, we’re all ahead of ourselves. It’s the hemispheric plight we find ourselves in!

For Spring Summer, Teurnell was inspired by strong visionary women; founder of Marimekko Armi Ratia and textile designers Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi and Annika Rimala.

The collection happily captures the essence of the Marimekko story, celebrating creativity and functionality with lively garden-inspired prints, and modern takes on some of the archival prints from time past. Spring Summer 2016 also heralds the introduction of shoes, eyewear and new bag designs.

Anna Teurnell

Teurnell was appointed Marimekko‘s Creative Director in 2014 after working at H&M and & Other Stories. She leads the design team across fashion, handbags, accessories and home. Teurnell grew up with Marimekko designs and has had a fondness for its design language for a lifetime.
