Ahead of her performance at NGV’s Grollo Equiset Garden on Valentine’s Day, we caught up with Ella Thompson to channel love and tell us what it means to her.
TGW: What are you most looking forward to singing this Sunday?
ET: I am going to do a cover of a Velvet Underground song on Sunday. I’ve always wanted to play one of their songs and thought this would be a good excuse.
TGW: Does Valentine’s have any impact on you? Are you a romantic or a realist?
‘I think any day to celebrate love in all its forms is a positive thing. Love is free and this is a free concert, so a good way to celebrate.’
TGW: Do you have any unusual pre performace rituals?
ET: A couple of deep breaths and away you go!
TGW: What is the most tragic love song that you will admit to liking?
ET: I’m Your Lady and You are My Man by Celine Dion. She has a fabulous set of lungs.
TGW: Love or career, or can you have both?
ET: Both!
TGW: What will be the best thing about people coming to see you on the day for lovers?
ET: The garden is really nice, I think it will be a pretty relaxed day.
TGW: What are you most looking forward to in 2016?
ET: Releasing new music!
