During its last days, we stepped inside a world of artistry at the Hermès At Work exhibit.
A travelling exhibition that first started in 2016, the show brings Hermès craftspeople from the intimacy of their ateliers in France, to demonstrate their craft to the wider universe – we saw live demonstrations of how different categories are constructed, drawn, sewn, cut and painted from handbags, to silk illustrations, hand painted plates, gem stones, gloves and more. I even got to hold silk cocoons – kind of eck, sort of cool. It was an immersive, enjoyable experience, and we left with an even greater appreciation for the time and skill it takes to hand craft just one remarkable piece from the luxury house of Hermès.
