As Darwin’s comedy queen Amy Hetherington tours Australia with her second solo show, WHERE THEY HIDE THE CRAZY, we asked if she would mind showing us some of her unique tropical chaos. And, what we got was a sweet picture of a loved up, deliciously mad woman who thoroughly enjoys an overshare.
Love changes as we change, there’s no expectations on what the love should be like, it’s just honest and real.
Do you believe in love? Yep legit! But love is something I feel for most people in my life. I’m a big feelings sort of human and if you’re a friend of mine you’re family. I’ve been in love and best mates with my now husband Paul for 10 years. I’ve spent a third of my life with this guy and I love him as much (if not more) than when we first met. Love changes as we change, there’s no expectations on what the love should be like, it’s just honest and real. Plus, if he can put up with my weirdness I’m hanging on to him.

If you were doing karaoke on V Day, what would you sing? In any karaoke situations I go hard, or go home. So, Valentines karaoke is BIG! It’s got to be the hairspray-fuelled mad-love madness of an 80s love ballad for me. Think I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner, or Total Eclipse of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler. I want a banger that I can play up for the crowd because it would absolutely mortify my husband, which is always the goal.
What is the most beautiful thing someone has ever made you? [My] hubby Paul recorded himself doing a cover of “Latch’ by Disclosure for our wedding. I walked down the aisle to it…. Awwwww.
Tell us about the time when love made you feel crazy? I guess as a married woman it might be every day! Haha! I love my husband but… when he leaves trimmings from his last shave in the sink, or eats the last of the leftovers without asking, or does a late night kebab fart in the bed, you really can’t help but go crazy… yet despite anything annoying he does, I love him to bits… nothing I can do about it! (NOTE: this is such a privileged and lucky human thing to complain about! Boo me!)

Where will you be on Valentine’s Day? I’m away from my husband this Valentine’s Day on my comedy tour. But it doesn’t feel like a big deal ‘cos it’s just another day. Plus, I get to tell jokes about sweating and trying to feel sexy in front of lovely humans (like my parents and Grandad) at Perth FRINGEWORLD – this is my real idea of romance!
