Mofo is the Museum of Old and New Art’s Festival of Music and Art in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, (planet earth, etc) and it happens every January.

 

Over the Mofo 2016 weekend, once the museum site closes, the MR-1 Fast Ferry will take Mofos down river from Mona to Brooke St Pier to the city to utterly disgrace themselves in sophisticated fashion.

 

Faux Mo is Mofo’s late-night riot, taking over a disused, ex-government office space (12 Murray St, Hobart) from Friday 15 – Sunday 17 January 2016, 9pm till late.

The building will become a debauched disco lair for summer Mofos before its planned demolition next year, making way for Hobart’s forthcoming Parliament Square development.

 

Curated by Hobart locals James Walsh, Aedan Howlett and Jamin, in collaboration with Mofo Curator Brian Ritchie, Faux Mo highlights include the Jedi of turntablism, DJ Yoda (UK), bringing his cut-up cartoon beats to Friday night; New York purveyors of no-wave, James Chance and The Contortions (USA) bringing their jazz-inflected, punk-fuelled funk for some Saturday night fever; and Japan’s godfather of atmospheric hip-hop, DJ Krush, rounding off Sunday’s celebrations with his mad jazz and soul sampling sounds.

All this, joined by a slew of national and local favourites amidst environs borne of electric dreams from artists including Jamin, Aedan Howlett, Lucy Benson, Scot Cotterell, Selena de Carvalho, Michaela Gleave, Joe Hamilton, Sean Healy, Jason James, Kit Wise, and 313RGB.
