VAMFF Cultural Program: Cut/Cover at Phillips Shirts

As part of VAMFF’s Cultural Program Project Series, curator Laura Thompson (LT) has partnered with the iconic Phillips Shirts in Melbourne to present Cut/Cover this Friday.

Step into the historic Phillips Shirts factory space and immerse yourself in a mix of installation, performance, visual art and fashion.

Cut/Cover looks at two actions;

Cutting: construct/tailor/break open/challenge/reveal

Covering: masks/costumes/veils/protect/ heal/disguise/hide

The exhibition aims to illustrate the physical process of these actions and their base role in fashion, but also to emphasise the metaphorical connection or differences across culture and identity.

Cut/Cover works by Chantal Fraser, Chantelle Lucyl Tarola, Douglas McManus, Matt Siwerski and Youjia Lu; and a performance titled Cut, Cover, Copy by Gabrielle Leah New with Kaira Hachefa and Bronwen Kamasz.

Curator Laura Thompson (lt) exhibitions focus to cultivate artist recognition and support, offering exposure to diverse audiences in engaging contexts.
