Centre for Style: Dress Rehearsal at Berlin Biennale

On 3 June 2016 the the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art will launch, activating a program of challenging installations and art works shaped by the different concepts of curators from around the world, each with a brief to enter into a dialogue with the city of Berlin, its general public, art enthusiasts and experts alike. Centre for Style from Melbourne is featured on the program.

Centre for Style is a Melbourne collective actively showcasing emerging and experimental contemporary fashion practices, fluidly swaying between store and gallery. In practical terms, it’s a shopstocking Australian and International brands, however each associated label expresses their designs by way of more artisanal pieces.

Australia’s ‘Centre for Style’ presents new types of fashion production and consumption.

As part of the 9th Berlin Biennale, Centre for Style has collaborated with Anna-Sophie Berger, Burkhard Beschow & Anne Fellner, Max Brand, Rare Candy with Alden Epp, Spencer Lai, Natasha Madden, Misty Pollen, Ander Rennick & Amber Wright, Susan Cianciolo, Marlie Mul, Liam Osborne, H.B. Peace & Kate Meakin, Joshua Petherick, Lin May Saeed and Eirik Sæther.

At the opening of the 9th Berlin Biennale, Rare Candy, Susan Cianciolo and H.B. Peace will perform ‘Dress Rehearsal’ with Centre for Style at Akademie der Künste, ground floor, Pariser Platz 4, 10117 Berlin from 7pm.

Akademie der Künste  on Pariser Platz is a known tourist trap, and an historical site that has been preserved in a large glass building, its close proximity to the government district sits in stark contrast to The Berlin Biennale, which will occupy the Akademie’s transitory spaces, event spaces, and passageways for the duration.
