Monday mornings are still relatively novel, given that it’s a new year. Actually that isn’t true at all. We’ve returned to work with the realisation that the only thing that changes from one stroke of time to the next, is us.
Here’s to continuing on this journey of shaping our lives to bring a deeper level of happiness, and making a conscious decision not to look to anyone else to bring it to us. Do your thing, yo’. Let new songs be your soundtrack.
The Gooch Palms: Tomorrow
Australia’s King & Queen of shit-pop, The Gooch Palms are back in Australia on their second national tour in less than six months.
Their recorded cover of Silverchair’s “Tomorrow” happened when the band “…were mucking around in rehearsal one day in LA and Leroy started playing the beginning of ‘Tomorrow’ out of the blue.”
On their last Australian album tour they decided to pay a “Goochies style” homage to the band that inspired both of them growing up as a couple of ratbags in Newcastle. It went off, so they popped into the studio with their Euro tour buddy UnkleFunkle in LA and recorded it before coming home.
Listen below and download it free via Bandcamp.

The Chainsmokers: Paris
2017 three-time multi-platinum and Grammy® nominated artist/producer duo The Chainsmokers (comprised of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart) have revealed their brand new single, Paris.
SAMPHA: (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano
On the weekend Sampha performed his new single ‘(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The moving ballad is a tribute to the to the piano that sat in the artist’s south London family home since he was three years old. The same piano on which he wrote much of his forthcoming debut album Process, out Friday 3rd February.
David Bowie: No Plan
At one minute past midnight on January 8th, the day that would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday, a stunning video for the song ‘No Plan’ surfaced quietly. It was directed by Tom Hingston, a long time Bowie collaborator. ‘No Plan’ was recorded during the sessions for David Bowie’s 28th and final album, ★.
Alex Da Kid: Not Easy ft. X Ambassadors, Elle King & Wiz Khalifa
Alex da Kid is a British-born super-producer best known for his work with Rihanna, Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors. His new track ‘Not Easy’ features X Ambassadors, Elle King & Wiz Khalifa. The X Ambassdaors recently featured on the top 10 ARIA Single ‘Sucker For Pain’ from the Suicide Squad Soundtrack
Sleaford Mods: B.H.S.
We’re loving this new track from Sleaford Mods. The band is aggressive, abrasive, and unabashed in their lyrical support for England’s 99% and in railing against the oligarchs who deny people their basic human and civil rights.
B.H.S. stands for British Home Stores, a chain of UK department stores controlled by Sir Philip Green, the chairman of Arcadia Group, which also owns Topshop. The chain was shuttered in summer 2016, and 11,000 jobs were lost, as well as £571 million from the pension fund, leaving 22,000 former employees without retirement income. Having taken £400 million in dividends from the failed retailer, Green was sailing the Mediterranean on a newly-purchased super-yacht as the last stores closed.
In ‘B.H.S.’ Sleaford Mods address Green’s treachery and the human costs he ignored.
The Flaming Lips: Sunrise (Eyes of the Young)
The Flaming Lips released their new album OCZY MLODY on Friday. Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young) is the first single. Of the accompanying video, lead singer/guitarist Wayne Coyne said, “The ‘Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young)’ video is part sombre and sad and part childlike, ethereal fantasy. Myself and the band (Well…Ha…Some of the band) are lip syncing and play pretending in a scene out of perhaps the spaghetti western, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…Ha. We are all looking serious and melancholy in what is maybe a church balcony at sunrise. The other part, the ethereal fantasy part, is Disney cartoon meets James Bond movie title sequence. The sun turns into a bouncy, drippy ball and is kicked around (and played with) by a giddy, cosmic nymph. Dancing and tripping in the echoes of dawn…”
M-PHAZES X ALISON WONDERLAND: Messiah
Melbourne producer M-Phazes shared his new single and official video late last week. Messiah is the first track from the Grammy, ARIA & Billboard award-winning artist’s forthcoming solo album and was co-written with gold certified producer Alison Wonderland, who delivers an epic vocal performance. Messiah is available now.
Cameron Avery: Wasted on Fidelity
We are quite enamoured with NY-based Australian singer songwriter Cameron Avery. His new single Wasted On Fidelity follows on from his debut release (and certified romantic banger) ‘C’est Toi’. Avery’s highly anticipated debut solo album Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams, is set for release March 10th via ANTI and Spinning Top Records (pre-order available now).
Cameron Avery is currently playing a series of headline dates in intimate venues across Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
London O’Connor: GUTS
GUTS is easily my favourite TUNE. for this week. It’s the second single from self-produced American songwriter London O’Connor, who recently signed to New York City-based record label True Panther Sounds for the official re-release of his critically acclaimed debut album O∆.
SLUMBERJACK: Fracture feat. Vera Blue
The Courtneys: Tour
Tour is the latest single from Vancouver trio, The Courtneys whose new album, The Courtneys II, will be released on 17 February and is available for pre-order now. It’s time to wind down the windows and hit the open road (ala “headed for the West Coast“).
The xx: Say Something Loving
The new album from The xx came out last Friday. On listening I kept swinging from absolutely loving it to wondering if it was a high school musical production. I’m not sure what happened, but I started listening to the XX with the intention of making a green juice. Next minute I’d reverted to AIR and inhaled buttery raspberry toast. A moment of panic and disappointment, perhaps? On Hold remains my favourite.
