The recent success of The Wellness Festival in Brisbane was no surprise, given it followed a massive sold-out Melbourne debut in April. Dubbed ‘the Coachella of the health world’ by Sporteluxe, the event is the first of its kind to combine health, business and an overwhelming sense of fun.
After their Melbourne triumph, festival organisers and wellness maestros Colour & Coconuts decided to take their winning combination on the road; first to Brisbane, then onto Sydney next month.
Here in Brisbane, The Wellness Festival welcomed a throng of bright-faced and eager devotees through the doors at Lightspace in Fortitude Valley. Its expansive, bright and airy space was the perfect setting for the event; all polished concrete, industrial girders, timber beams and the type of corrugated iron chic Brisbane does so well. The main warehouse space was beautifully prepped with fresh blooms and soft pendant lighting for the morning’s talks, where attendees were able to linger beforehand. Next door in the Lounge Bar there was much mingling, with many sipping on the festival’s signature fresh coconut drinks available in abundance. The delights of the Wellness Market extended from inside the Lounge area to the sunny rear courtyard where vendors including Nodo Donuts, Dusty Girls and Remedy Kombucha pleased all with their ready offerings of treats and chances to sample.
There were nothing but good vibes on this sunny, breezy, vegas morning as the growing crowd (gargantuan goody-bags in hand) readied themselves for inspirational talks from names such as Lisa Messenger, Stylerunner founder Julie Stevanja and nutritionist Jacqueline Alwill.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Lauren Pell, the brains and beauty behind Colour & Coconuts, for a quick Q+A this week:
TGW: The Wellness Festival in Brisbane was a joy to attend! What stood out for you as differences in the general vibe between Melbourne and Brisbane?
LP: Brisbane has an amazing health scene – everyone is very outdoorsy because of the climate. Us Melbournians are jealous!
TGW: Your business motto is “create something you wish existed”. Has the Wellness Festival transpired into everything you’d wished for when you first came up with the concept?
LP: Yes it’s everything and more! We love continuing to create events for our ‘coconuts’ with new inspiring speakers and delicious food in amazing venues.
TGW: We really enjoyed hanging out at the Wellness Market and enjoying the variety of treats on offer. What’s the selection criteria for your vendors at each of the events?
LP: It’s super important that our exhibitors align with our health philosophy! High quality, healthy, and brands we have tried and love!
TGW: Your interactive events are an exciting mix of world-class speakers, music, markets, fun and fitness. What do you think is the biggest take-home for attendees?
LP: As Lisa Messenger says, ‘anything is possible.’ Colour & Coconuts is a testament to that!
TGW: What are you most excited about for the Sydney event in October?
We love travelling to new cities and discovering all that the wellness scene has to offer. For our Sydney event we’re staying at the Bondi Yoga house which we’re SO excited about – close to the beach and yummy food! We can’t wait to meet and connect with a whole new bunch of coconuts!
