Palm Springs Weekend is a classic 1963 film. Each year during Spring Break, Palm Springs swarms with young men and women in hot pursuit of freedom and sunny California adventure. It’s a rom-com time capsule – somehow, any styling related to Palm Springs and the 1960s remained in spirit – fun, kitsch, fruity, repeat!
Paging Stefanie Powers
Though an Australian spring will more likely see you heading bathside with your inflatables, occasionally the sun bursts through, so you should take full advantage! Start with twinkle toes and keep adding layers until you get a stitch!

The Troy Donahue (I know what you wanna do)
Men and boys in the bright sunshine. More fun than you could poke a pina colada piñata at, with the inclusion of a dash of my Samoan heritage for good measure (nowhere near California, but it works).

Palm Springs on the Inside
If you can’t actually be in Palm Springs, you can always decorate like you were born there. Cocktails are really more fun when you incorporate understated tropical tones with 60s shapes. Blend woven textures with colours of the ocean, and plonk an enormous Slim Aarons book in the centre of the room. You can leaf through it while you wait for the Melbourne sun to actually show itself. We are ready.
Pictured L-R: Brunswick Book Store Slim Aarons Women, 1st Dibs Ice Bucket by Auböck, NEXT houndstooth dress, Jonathan Adler ‘Aviaria’ coaster set, Adairs Home Republic Palm Springs cushion, Freedom chenille twist cushion, Dodgy Bossa (and Silly Sambas) music compilation featuring Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66, Herbie Mann, Astrud Gilberto, Elvis Presley, Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin & Lou Rawls. TGW serving suggestion: add a pitcher of gin, BanJ Florist on Etsy bamboo vintage fan, Freedom Sanctuary armchair, Freedom rug, Wild & Wolf desk telephone in mustard.
