A playful, neon pink ‘car wash’ has been unveiled as the 2016 Architecture Commission by Melbourne-based M@ STUDIO Architects.
The 23m-long, vibrant slice of suburbia has five lanes of bright pink astro-turf with contrasting white road markings and enormous humps (watch your step). It even has mirrored panelling, water misters and bright red fringe curtain mimicking a soft cloth car wash entry.
You can walk through and interact with the elements – the whole thing is set within the picturesque grounds of the NGV Gardens. Melbourne city provides a perfect backdrop to the surreal experience. Imagine finding yourself walking through an archictect’s render drawing, except it’s really happening..
Throughout the season, the 2016 Architecture Commission will play host to events, talks, and live music performances, as well as providing a space for visitors to gather and frolic in Melbourne’s sometimes sunshine.
