Memoirs of a Geisha was a 2005 American epic film adaptation of an original novel of the same name by Arthur Golden. The story reveals how Sayuri transcended her fishing-village roots and transformed into one of Japan’s most celebrated geisha. But with this success, Sayuri also learns the secrets and sacrifices of the geisha lifestyle. Though the story line may be far from our reality, the idea of transcending from humble beginnings to something far more glamorous should appeal to everyone, right?
A Collision of Colour & Metallics + crisp neutrals
With this theme in mind, it’d be really easy to gag yourself on cherry blossom prints and tree motifs, but that’s not necessary – try to imagine the feeling of spring serenity and calmness where it’s cool in the shade. What colours match that? Metallic pinks, green, light grey and neutrals. Mix your florals with textured accessories to give the outfit elevation, but bring it back to earth with neutrals and whites. And behave like a lady (whatever that means).

A Non-fiction Memoir
In shades of duck egg blue and pastel apricots with hard black. These flourishes of the orient won’t leave you feeling too decorated. Subtlety works when you’re considering a city interpretation of this theme. Overdoing the look will make it dated and possibly have you shuffling up the street is full geisha regalia. Settle down.
