In NYC: BAD DADS VII / An art show tribute to the films of Wes Anderson

The 7th annual Bad Dads exhibition launches this week at the newly opened Lower East Side Spoke Art gallery space. Celebrating the brilliant cinematic career of American director Wes Anderson, the show brings together works of over 80 artists from around the world.

What started in 2010 as a pop-up exhibition curated by gallery owner Ken Harman, Bad Dads has gained momentum over six years, becoming a highly anticipated, international recognised, and often costumed art event. The exhibition series has steadily mirrored the release of Anderson’s eight feature films, numerous shorts and commercial features. BAD DADS VII presents original paintings, sculpture, and limited edition prints. Preview some of the works in this gallery:

The title Bad Dads derives its name from the iconic recurring father figures that Wes Anderson cultivates.

Each artist was free to choose their own film for subject matter, resulting in a vast range of character portraits, detailed environments and iconic themes and motifs, prominent in each of Anderson’s films.

This year’s exhibition coincides with the recent release of Abram’s new hardcover book “BAD DADS” – a compendium of Wes Anderson inspired artworks from the last six years of the show.
