British fashion designer Phoebe English will be the next featured designer at the V&A’s Fashion in Motion.
The Fashion in Motion series brings catwalk shows by leading international designers to the V&A. The aim is to show fashion as it is meant to be seen – in movement.
Held in the Museum’s Raphael Gallery on Friday 20 October, four free shows will present highlights from Phoebe English collections over the last six years.

Phoebe English has established a luxury womens and menswear label creating garments entirely ‘Made in England’, with particular attention paid to precision and beauty. Her collections are staged within brilliantly unexpected fashion sets offering an inclusive immersion for audiences to step into.
English regularly references lost or little-used fabrication techniques, with a respect for construction and the ‘mark of the maker’, setting her label apart from mass made fashion and trend led design – maintaining a kind of a permanence in the transience of fashion.
“Taking part in Fashion in Motion has a particular significance to me, as the V&A was the museum in which I decided to follow my interest in fashion. It is the building where my love for clothing and design were contextualised into a tangible practice and pathway. The V&A is a temple to all the endless creative possibilities of the human mind. To have the opportunity to be involved with both such an historic and contemporary space is a very special thing indeed.”

In addition to the shows, a pop up shop will feature on the day with a selection of garments from the archive along with pieces crafted especially for the V&A, and unique pieces exclusively sold at special V&A promotional prices.
Previous designers featured in the Fashion in Motion series include Alexander McQueen, Christian Lacroix, Christopher Raeburn, Erdem, Gareth Pugh, Giles Deacon, Grace Wales Bonner, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jenny Packham, Meadham Kirchhoff, Missoni, Molly Goddard, Roksanda Ilincic, Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto.
