The Freedom Calendar 2018 features 20 Australian artists responding to refugees on Manus Island

Have yourselves a design conscious yet mindful Christmas & New Year.

A 2018 Calendar with artwork by 20 Australian artists in direct response to tweets from refugees detained on Manus Island is now available.

The calendar is an initiative by The Jacky Winter Group in Melbourne, and when they put the call out to local artists, Beci Orpin put her hand up. She told us that ‘it was a pretty hard thing to illustrate given that it’s such a fucked up situation’. She said, ‘My work is usually so positive – I don’t usually deal with that kind of subject matter. Walid’s tweet was actually quite positive, so I tried to embrace the positivity of it, but also show the seriousness of the situation.’ Orpin’s design is seen at the top of this post.
