Nikita Majajas (aka Margarita) has been transfixed with wearable art since visiting Japan in the late nineties. It was there that she found herself in the middle of the street fashion explosion. Inspired by the Harajuku kids’ wildly theatrical DIY street fashion, she returned to Sydney to study fashion design and shoe making.
After completing an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design, Margarita took part in over 20 group exhibitions in Australia including two solo shows: Coco Loco: An Ode to Kitsch and Plastique Fantastique.
During a residency at Brand X Studios she developed a range of pop-art costume jewellery under the Doodad and Fandango name.
Margarita’s career highlights include a collaboration with Gorman (SS15) and making the accessories for the Romance Was Born S/S14 Mushroom Magic show.
Finding inspiration through contemporary artists like Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring and Haruki Murakami, each playful perspex piece is hand assembled in her Sydney home studio.
“Doodad and Fandango pieces make a bold statement. They straddle the divide between art and fashion. I’m on a mission to breathe the energy of performance and the passion of pop into the personality of objects.”

Doodad and Fandango is a fun, irreverent statement jewellery brand offering custom pieces and the popular ‘Doppelgänger’ range.

“The role of jewellery in our culture is quite interesting, it serves to make a statement more than serve a ‘useful’ purpose, so why not go large?!”

“I’m in a group art show in a couple of months, which I’m really looking forward to… I’ll be up-sizing my doodads for a gallery situation.”
