The Flaming Lips at Mona for Mofo 2016

The Flaming Lips are the first artist to be revealed for Mona Foma 2016.

The full Mofo 2016 lineup will be announced at 11am next Friday 16 October, 2016

American psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips will bring their special brand of weird to Mofo (13–18 January 2016) this summer, taking to the outdoor stage at the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Mofo – the Museum of Old and New Art’s Festival of Music and Art in Tasmania takes place across Hobart from 13–18 January 2016, peaking with a frenetic weekend occupying Mona’s subterranean galleries, cavernous spaces and sprawling, sunny agoras.

For 30 years, The Flaming Lips have railed against the rules of rock music, cementing their reputation as purveyors of the weird and wonderful, which is perfectly befitting for a festival borne of Mona’s experimental ethos.

The Flaming Lips are renowned for their eccentricity; from stepping onto stage out of a glowing neon vagina; to Wayne Coyne performing inside his signature ‘space-bubble’ while crowd-surfing with back-up dancers dressed as yetis, aliens and animals. There’s an art to being this weird, and where better for the band to appear than at Mofo in 2016.

Mofo is a project of Mona, supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania. Full Mofo 2016 lineup announced and tickets on sale 11am Friday 16 October AEDT from the Mofo website
