The Paper Kites Complete Video Trilogy with ‘Renegade’ + National ‘Midnight’ Tour Dates

The Paper Kites have released a clip for their track Renegade, the final instalment in their trilogy of ‘midnight’ videos. They’re also looking forward to their five date national Midnight tour, which kicks off at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on 23 June.

Each video in the “midnight” trilogy features made up stories in imagined places, set between the hours of midnight and 4am. Each video stars different cities and people, yet each story unfurls during the early hours of the morning.

Revelator EyesElectric Indigo and Renegade are all tied back to the name of The Paper Kites‘ critically acclaimed album Twelvefour, and the experimental way in which lead songwriter Sam Bentley wrote the songs for it (so, so many more songs than are on the album). Read our interview with him here, where he explains the surreal process in detail.

The Renegade video follows a gang of kids who break int aquatic cinema La Cinequatic in the wee hours. It was directed by Dan Huiting (Bon Iver), master of all three.

‘It’s been really cool actually seeing these places on screen in the videos and people watching and asking us where they can find them – I think the idea was to create places that we would love to go to.

– Sam Bentley

Further cementing the relationship between music and film, the Midnight tour will be an immersive experience unlike any other, mimicking a journey through the midnight hours, as Bentley describes,

‘We perform the music and behind us are a group of apartment windows. Through the windows, a series of stories play out in the lives of different people…we provide the soundtrack to a single night, the audience watching through the dim lit windows and seeing these stories progress, eventually fading to darkness.’

The Paper Kites are Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, David Powys, Josh Bentley and Sam Rasmussen.
