Spring in Park Lane: Style Ideas for Spring

Anna Neagle, Britain’s sweetheart of the 1940s starred with Michael Wilding in Spring in Park Lane, a jaunty ‘upstairs-downstairs’ romantic comedy set in London. Who doesn’t live for a light upstairs-downstairs scandal?

Pretty proper with a side of scotch

A mix of textures, subdued colours with houndstooth, tortoiseshell, suede and beading. Quiet, self assured details. She belongs here.

A stylish night in

It’s late in the afternoon, and all the work is done. The candles are a burning, and Lena Horne’s a singing. You’ve decided against venturing out for the evening. A little while ago I tried to commission a huge cement plaster rosette for the outside of my house, like the indoor one pictured below. All I got was a series of defeated cries, “It can’t be done! It can’t be done!”, however, you can buy these and hang them in your space as wall plaques, no matter what period your home is. Avoid the company of naysayers. They ruin the mood.

Stepping out

Of course, not everyone wants to teleport themselves back to the late 1940s. Romance and sitting pretty isn’t a priority for some. However, an update on classic style always brings good fortune. Slight updates make basics new again. Go soft on the stripes in light blue and silver grey in your home on lavish linen wallpapers or shirts of pure cotton. Add silk, gemstones and pearls, with an unexpected nail colour to finish (pink is so obvious).
